Perkins was taken over in, January 1998 by the popular engine manufacturers, Caterpillar Inc after CAT acquired the assets of Perkins LTD. Once this was done, Caterpillar ended up becoming the world leader in manufacturing off-highway diesel engines for many vehicles.

As Perkins Engines began operating as a subsidiary of CAT, Perkins Engines Company LTD opened up a number of facilities across the world, including Brazil, China, Japan, Singapore, United Kingdom, and the United States.
